Deputy Speaker of the House of Peoples of the PA BiH Dr Dragan Čović holds a meeting with the Apostolic Nuncio to Bosnia and Herzegovina
“Deputy Speaker of the House of Peoples of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina (PA BiH), Dr Dragan Čović, held a meeting today with the Apostolic Nuncio to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Archbishop Francis Assisi Chullikatt.
During the meeting, which was also attended by the Chairwoman of the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Ms Borjana Krišto, and a Member of the House of Representatives of the PA BiH, Ms Darijana Filipović, discussions focused on the current social and political situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina, including the necessary amendments to the Election Law aimed at ensuring the full equality of the three constituent peoples, with particular emphasis on an unconditional commitment to the promotion of peace, dialogue, and the common good for all citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The role of religious communities in strengthening mutual trust and understanding was particularly highlighted, as well as the importance of continuous communication between the institutions of Bosnia and Herzegovina and representatives of the Holy See.
On this occasion, Deputy Speaker Dr Čović expressed deep gratitude for the Holy See’s enduring support for Bosnia and Herzegovina, emphasising that the values of cooperation, mutual respect, and dialogue play a key role in the long-term building of a stable and prosperous society. He particularly pointed to the need to safeguard the rights of the Croat people as a constituent people, underlining the necessity of amendments to the Election Law, as well as the preservation of Catholic values and the cultural and historical heritage in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The Chairwoman of the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Ms Borjana Krišto, informed the Apostolic Nuncio about the continuous work of the Council of Ministers, stressing that only responsible action ensures the functionality of institutions, the adoption of necessary decisions, and the achievement of progress, particularly in Bosnia and Herzegovina’s European integration process.
MP Filipović emphasised that ensuring the equality of the Croat people and protecting their cultural, historical, and religious values, alongside continuous cooperation between the institutions of Bosnia and Herzegovina and international partners, including the Holy See, represents an important component of achieving the long-term development and stability of Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as strengthening mutual trust within the country.
Archbishop Chullikatt expressed full support for efforts aimed at strengthening dialogue and building trust among people and communities in Bosnia and Herzegovina, highlighting the importance of the unconditional protection of the constitutionally defined rights of the Croat people in the period ahead, as well as the preservation of Catholic values, emphasising the need for cooperation among all representatives of society in building the future of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the officials underlined that consistent dialogue, joint action, and mutual respect are fundamental prerequisites for ensuring overall progress, stability, and the European perspective of Bosnia and Herzegovina, confirming a strong commitment to further strengthening relations between Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Holy See.” (Press release from the Office of the Deputy Speaker of the House of Peoples, Dr Dragan Čović)
